AMD RDNA3 GPU design drawing exposure can achieve super 3GHz frequency

VideoCardz has now obtained an architectural design diagram of AMD RDNA3 GPU, which shows some information not mentioned at AMD’s conference.

As shown in the figure above, the RDNA3 architecture Navi31 GPU adopts a Chiplet design, including a 5nm graphics core (GCD) in the middle and six 6nm process memory cache cores (MCD) around it.

In terms of cache, Navi31 L0 cache is 3MB, an increase of 240%; L1 cache is 3MB, an increase of 300%; L2 cache is 6MB, an increase of 50%; L3 infinite cache is 96MB, 32MB smaller than the previous generation Navi 21.

The most notable point is that the RNDA3 GPU frequency mentioned in the figure can exceed 3GHz, the first in the industry. However, the Boost frequency of the AMD RX 7900 XTX reference version is only 2.5GHz. It is reported that AMD seems to be pursuing a balance between performance and power consumption. The public version of the graphics card uses dual 8pin power supplies, which limits the power of the graphics card. The non-public model will use better cooling and power supply, reaching a frequency of 3GHz, unlocking more performance.

AMD Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards are expected to be officially available on AMD.com website from December 13, 2022, and from mid-December by leading partners including ASRock, ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, Shaxun, Sapphire , Hankai, Xunjing and Yeston are on sale. The e-commerce suggested retail price of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX is RMB 7,999, while the e-commerce suggested retail price of the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT is RMB 7,399.

The RX 7900 XTX public version has 96CU, 6144 stream processors, GPU frequency 1900-2500MHz, and graphics card power consumption of 355W, which is much lower than the 450W of RTX 4090. The RX 7900 XTX reference version is 287 mm long and 2.5 slot thick, which is much smaller than Nvidia’s flagship model.
