AMD optimizes the power consumption of Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards for gaming

According to Videocardz news, after the launch of the RX 7900 series of graphics cards, AMD has been optimizing the power consumption performance of this series of graphics cards. The latest tests found that the power consumption of the RX 7900 series has been reduced a lot in no-load and video modes, and the power consumption in games has also been optimized.

According to reports, the driver released by AMD last month is optimized for the power consumption of the RX 7900 series when playing video. Before optimization, the RX 7900 XT consumes 71W to play YouTube videos, and the RX 7900 XTX GPU consumes 81W. After optimization, the power consumption of the two cards is reduced to 46W and 54W respectively, which is still not as good as the RTX 4080 (34W) or the Radeon RX 6900 XT (30W).

In addition, foreign media ComputerBase found that the game power consumption of the RX 7900 under the new driver has also been optimized, but only in scenes where the frame rate is limited.

As shown above, in the Doom Eternal game at 1440p resolution, the RX 7900 XTX is 57% more efficient (down 90W) and the RX 7900 XT is 34% more efficient (down 57W) with the new driver when the frame rate is limited to 144fps. When the frame rate is not limited, there is no significant change in power consumption between the two cards under the old and new drivers.
