CPU, graphics cards not only to improve performance, energy efficiency is also a key point, or power consumption, heat is getting bigger and bigger, not conducive to environmental protection, AMD last year put forward a small goal, in the five years before 2025 to improve the efficiency of the chip 30 times, and now they announced progress, so far this year has improved 6.8 times.

AMD recently released its 2021 CSR Corporate Social Responsibility Report, which talks about AMD’s progress in the supply chain, employee diversity, and sustainability, one of the key elements is to improve the energy efficiency of chips, which is also in greening and reducing carbon emissions.

With this goal in mind, AMD has proposed the 30×25 plan, which is also to improve the energy efficiency of processors and graphics cards by 30 times in the five-year period from 2020 to 2025.

According to AMD’s progress, energy efficiency improved 3.9 times in 2021, and by 2022, the target became 6.8 times, and will continue to improve in the future, after all, AMD has 5nm, 4nm and 3nm CPUs and graphics cards behind, so it is still too late before 2025.

AMD said if all AI and HPC servers around the world achieve 30x energy efficiency improvement, it can save 51 billion kWh of electricity between 2021 and 2025, equivalent to $6.2 billion, or the carbon benefit of 600 million trees growing for 10 years.
