AMD has joined the newly formed PyTorch Foundation as a founding member, according to official news from AMD. The foundation will be part of the non-profit Linux Foundation and will promote and sustain an ecosystem of open source projects to drive the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) tools through PyTorch, the machine learning (ML) software framework originally created and supported by Meta.

As a founding member, AMD joins others in the industry in prioritizing the continued growth of PyTorch’s active community, AMD said. Backed by innovations such as the AMD ROCm open software platform, AMD Instinct gas pedals, adaptive SoCs and CPUs, AMD will help the PyTorch Foundation by working to make state-of-the-art tools, libraries and other components available to the masses and make these ML innovations accessible to all.

Open software is critical to advancing HPC, AI and ML research, and we are ready to bring our extensive experience with open software platforms and innovation to the PyTorch Foundation,” said Brad Mccredie, vice president of data center and accelerated processing at AMD. From tens of trillions of sub-supercomputers in research labs to major cloud deployments showcasing HPC and AI / ML, the AMD Instinct gas pedal and ROCm software platform are powering HPC and ML sites around the world. Together with the rest of the Foundation, we will support and accelerate the science and research that can have a huge impact on the world.”
