Amazon Luna cloud gaming service no longer offers apps for Windows and Mac

0

The Amazon Luna Cloud Gaming Service will no longer offer dedicated Windows or Mac applications for its Luna Cloud Gaming Service, and the corresponding download links have been removed from the official website.

9to5Google has received a statement from an Amazon spokesperson confirming that it will no longer offer apps for Windows and Mac. In other words, Windows and Max gamers will only be able to access Luna through a web browser:

When we see something our customers like, we go the extra mile. We've optimized the web browser experience and brought users all the features that the Luna desktop application offers. So when customers use Luna in their web browsers, they have the exact same Luna experience.

We believe strongly in the future of cloud gaming and are discontinuing the Luna PC and Mac versions of the application so we can devote more time and resources to innovation and better service for our Luna customers.

Publicly available information indicates that Amazon Luna was released in 2020 and offered dedicated Windows and Mac apps at launch.

With the removal of the PC and Mac apps, Amazon now offers dedicated programs only for its Fire TV smart TVs and streaming devices. All other platforms must be accessed through a Web browser, including smartphones.

The service starts at $9.99 per month (currently about RMB 71) and allows users to play more than 100 games. It’s worth noting that Amazon Prime members can access a small selection of games on the service for free.
