Amazon has discontinued Amazon Glow, an interactive video chat device for children

Amazon has discontinued Amazon Glow, an interactive video chat device focused on helping to educate and entertain children and loved ones over the internet in the midst of a pandemic. 2021’s Amazon Glow combines a screen and projector to give children access to a wide range of entertainment and educational content. The video screen connects the child to a remote person on the other end of the video call, while projecting the play space onto a silicone mat, where parents and children who are not in the same location can both participate

But apparently, sales did not meet expectations, leading Amazon to cancel the product.

“At Amazon, we think about problems, experiment, and invest in new ideas to please our customers,” said Amazon spokeswoman Christy Schmidt, who confirmed the cancellation of the Glow business.” We are also constantly evaluating the progress and potential of our products to deliver customer value, and we regularly make adjustments based on these evaluations. We will be sharing updates and guidance with Glow customers soon.”

Included among Amazon’s Glow is entertainment and educational content, such as built-in games like checkers and Go, as well as puzzles, thousands of books and a free drawing app, Glow also scans real objects into the pieces and does fun things like rearranging a puzzle by breaking a picture of a child’s favorite toy large on the screen.

Amazon has also partnered with movie studios to offer branded experiences from Disney, Mattel, Sesame Street and Nickelodeon, but kids can only watch the videos when calling an approved adult.

The device will retail for $300, but on Tuesday members of Amazon’s Prime programme could get it for $150 on clearance, which is 55 per cent of the list price, while stocks last.
