Amazon, Electric Car Maker Rivian Consider Ending Exclusive Partnership Agreement

0

Amazon and Rivian are reportedly considering ending an agreement that would no longer require the electric car maker to sell its delivery vans exclusively to Amazon.

Rivian then launched negotiations to end the exclusivity agreement after Amazon reportedly told Rivian in recent months that it planned to purchase about 10,000 vans this year, the lower end of its previous purchase plan.

The exclusive agreement was first signed in 2019.

Amazon is Rivian’s largest shareholder, with a 17 percent stake in the company. Amazon says this investment, along with its plan to purchase 100,000 Rivian vans by 2030, will be an important part of its emissions reduction plan.

Both sides have been working hard in recent months to cut costs, which has also included layoffs.
