According to Reuters, Toyota Motor is urging owners of 50,000 old U.S. cars to immediately recall for repairs because air bag inflators may explode and kill the owners.

It is noted that this batch of recalled vehicles includes some 2003-2004 Corolla, 2003-2004 Corolla Matrix, and 2004-2005 RAV4 equipped with Takata airbag inflators.

Since 2009, more than 30 people have died worldwide, including 26 in the United States, and hundreds of injuries in vehicles from various automakers have been linked to Takata airbag inflators that can explode, ejecting cars and trucks. The metal shrapnel inside.

Over the past decade, more than 20 automakers have recalled more than 67 million Takata airbag inflators in the United States and more than 100 million inflators worldwide, making it the largest automotive safety recall in history.

Toyota said the RAV4 recall involves the driver airbag, while the other recalls only cover the front passenger airbag. In Corolla and Corolla Matrix models, some vehicles are also subject to a second recall that could cause airbags to deploy even without a collision.
