AI company Databricks has launched Lakehouse Apps, a general term for native software packaged using a series of models from the company. The company also launched the “AI Model Sharing Mechanism,” a series of official and third-party open-source models that users can quickly deploy in the Lakehouse App and in their own content.

Databricks claims that Lakehouse Apps is “native software” based on the company’s model, so it can run freely on any user’s endpoint in a secure and trusted manner while maximizing the efficiency of the software, subject to Databricks’ constraints.

Databricks also said that developers can use familiar technology and their own programming language to design Lakehouse Apps and freely list them in the Databricks App Store. Thanks to the “AI model sharing mechanism,” the company and third-party developers can easily provide a range of services, users can quickly use the models to get the functionality they need, and Databricks can earn revenue from distributing the apps, making it a “win-win” for everyone. This is a “win-win” situation.
The technical preview of the Databricks native app store will go live on June 28, while the Lakehouse native app and models distributed based on the “AI model sharing mechanism” will be available in preview next year.
