Activision has already planned the “Call of Duty” game in the next few years. In an interview with GamesBeat, Activision president Rob Kostich discussed the first 20 years of Call of Duty and where the series is heading in the future.

Call of Duty has been released annually for the past two decades, in many different settings. Call of Duty originally focused on World War II, but it really became top-tier with the launch of the Modern Warfare series. In addition, the “Black Ops” series is set in the Cold War era and the near future, while “Infinite Warfare” is set in the distant future.

Rob Kostich said Activision has learned from every game in the series that games generally hit a “sweet spot” regardless of setting.

“We’ve been in the planning stages, the long-term planning stages,” he said. “Now, we have plans for the Call of Duty franchise through 2027.”

“I think the most important thing is balance, and we feel like we actually need to provide a good differentiated experience that allows people to engage and feel like they’re experiencing something new,” Rob Kostich said. “For us, the weapon is Call of Duty. It’s a very important part of the game. You also have to think about what the narrative allows you to do no matter what time period you’re in.”

Rob Kostich also said: “The challenge is that when you get into World War II or earlier, when you try to maintain some kind of realistic tone, there is less flexibility, which is important for Call of Duty. By the way, our fans very strongly define what Call of Duty is and is not.”

Rob Kostich revealed that all of Activision’s core studios contribute to Call of Duty, with around 3,000 developers currently working on the series.

Activision will reveal the latest details about the new “Call of Duty” game during a live broadcast at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time on October 5, showing the gameplay of “Modern Warfare 3” Multiplayer modes and more.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to release on November 10, 2023, and is the direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. Development of the game is led by Sledgehammer in partnership with Infinity Ward, while Treyarch is responsible for its Zombies mode.

The 2024 Call of Duty game will reportedly be a new Black Ops game set during the Gulf War, with development being led by Treyarch.
