A BMW M3 attains a peak 197 MPH speed with modifications; outperforms the company’s claims

A YouTube video on the AutoTopNL channel showcases BMW’s M3 outperforming the company’s own performance claims on the car. The man seen in the video is the lucky owner of a G80 M3 that comes with the available six-speed manual transmission.

BMW M3 tweaks

BMW’s current claims on the M3 mention an optimum speed of 180 mph (290 km/h) with the top speed limiter removed or 155 mph (250 km/h) with the limiter staying intact. The owner of the car in the video does not have the Competition variant, however, has tweaked the ECU, exercised a decent number of performance modifications on his car and lately had the top speed limiter removed.

In addition to the ECU modification, the M3 seen in the video enjoys gains from 200-cell downpipes, a new catback exhaust and a carbon fiber air intake. These modifications have conferred it with a power of approximately 650 hp and torque under 590 lb-ft (800 Nm). This certainly is a massive upgrade over the standard 473hp and 405 lb-ft (550 Nm).

BMW M3 put to the test

Wanting to test his car, the guy drove his car on the German Autobahn. He was seen racing the car to a spectacular top speed of 317km/h, as seen on the speedometer. That translated to 197 mph on his GPS timing machine. The claim of close to 200 mph falls pale in the face of this extraordinary feat proving that the car has a lot more gunk in it than what the company believes.

The M3 modifications brought in enhancements not just in the optimum speed attained by the car. In-gear acceleration too has drastically improved as the car was seen sprinting from 100 km/h (62 mph) to 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 7.2 seconds in one of the tests at the Autobahn.
