ZTE T820 chip released: 6nm process octa-core CPU, financial-grade fully built-in security solutions

ZTE today officially announced the new T820, a high-performance 5G SoC with system-level security, featuring an octa-core CPU architecture, 6nm EUV process, and a financial-grade fully built-in security solution.

Performance
The CPU of the T820 adopts a 1+3+4 tri-cluster octa-core CPU architecture, consisting of one 2.7GHz Arm Cortex-A76 core, three 2.3GHz Arm Cortex-A76 cores, and four 2.1GHz Arm Cortex-A55 cores, and supports 3MB triple cache.

The Purple Rays T820 is equipped with the Arm Mali-G57 MC4 GPU running at 850MHz.

The T820 is built on a 6nm EUV process and combined with AI smart tuning technology, the T820 consumes 40% less power in some scenarios compared to the first generation 5G mobile platform from ZTE. Meanwhile, the T820 supports LPDDR4X memory and UFS 3.1 flash memory.

The T820 uses AI noise reduction and Smart PA intelligent amplifier technology to increase the average volume of the terminal, especially without exceeding the capacity of the speakers. Based on ZENITH’s innovative digital audio technology, it can precisely suppress ambient noise and provide users with professional recording effects with audio-visual integration. Equipped with a low-power voice wake-up system, it will better empower voice assistant-type applications.

Security
The SPR T820 uses a trusted execution environment and a separate hardware encryption and decryption engine to form a complete security solution. The solution integrates a financial-grade iSE security unit into the SoC, making it more difficult to locate attacks and more secure than external SE solutions, and can support hundreds of financial applications such as bank cards and digital currencies.

The T820’s high level of integration significantly reduces PCB design difficulties and lowers overall design and manufacturing costs.

5G Connectivity
The T820 supports 5G NR TDD+FDD dual-carrier aggregation technology, enabling up to 130MHz of spectrum bandwidth aggregation, significantly improving communication signal coverage and resulting in faster 5G speeds.

The T820 supports 4G/5G dynamic spectrum sharing technology, which maximizes the use of existing spectrum resources, satisfies the need for 5G co-location, and effectively reduces network deployment costs.

In addition, SPR has developed an innovative full-scene coverage enhancement technology on the T820, which increases the uplink rate of cell near-point users by 60% and improves network coverage by more than 100%, providing strong technical support for the popularization of applications such as multi-channel HD surveillance, remote motion control, and machine vision.

The T820 also supports 2G to 5G multi-mode all-networking, Sub-6GHz full-band, SA/NSA, dual SIM dual 5G and EPS Fallback, VoNR HD voice and video calls, and other communication features.

Imaging
The T820 adopts quad-core ISP architecture and is supported by ZTE’s sixth-generation Vivimagic imaging engine, which supports billion-pixel cameras, full-path 4K HD video recording, and AI algorithms developed by ZTE, enabling rich AI imaging functions such as AI noise reduction, AI-HDR, AI-Bokeh depth-of-field defocusing technology, Face ID unlocking, and AI face detection.

The T820’s ISP processing performance supports ultra-high resolution shooting at up to 1.6 billion pixels per second, giving users the flexibility to choose between 108MP, 64MP, 50MP, 48MP and other resolutions. The T820 also supports 14-bit RAW and RAW data.

The T820 also supports 14-bit RAW processing, a new “heterogeneous image processing engine” architecture, and XDR dedicated night scene multi-frame, multi-exposure shooting capability to recover more dark details and obtain higher quality night scene effects.

AI
The T820 adopts a new generation of energy-efficient NPU+VDSP architecture with vertically optimized computing power and 8TOPS of NPU computing power, a 67% increase over the previous generation.

T820 with the new AI computing platform provides a full-stack AI solution with integrated software, hardware, and algorithm. It supports low-bit quantization of model weight values and activation values, including 4bit to 8bit, 10bit, 12bit, 16bit, and other different accuracies; supports industry mainstream training framework access; supports advanced weight compression technology, making “big model ” deployment on the end-side is possible; supports 200+ mainstream neural network operators, provides convenient development access and debugging environment, and is more friendly and intelligent to use.

T820 supports AI applications such as image hyper-segmentation, video enhancement, semantic segmentation, target detection, and text recognition, helping customers quickly build exclusive AI applications.

Display
The T820 adopts the next-generation multi-core display architecture from Spreadtrum, supporting 120Hz refresh rate Full HD FHD+ and 60Hz refresh rate QHD+ resolutions, and full-path, full-format HDR standard rendering capability, which will provide users with deep and layered picture quality.

The T820 multi-screen display supports up to 4K HDR10+ Ultra HD quality, and combined with DCI dynamic contrast enhancement, will provide users with natural and true color rendering, rich and vivid colors, and a wider color gamut, greatly enhancing the user experience in high frame rate competitive games, 5G ultra HD video viewing, XR and other visually immersive application scenarios.

The T820 adopts variable refresh rate (VRR) and resolution switching technology, which enables the display refresh rate of the terminal to intelligently match the content of games, movies and videos, allowing users to get a smooth HD experience while improving battery life.
