ZTE was rumored to have been working on the successor to the famed Axon Series which was supposed to be named the Axon 40 Series. This morning, Ni Fei took to Weibo to announce the all-new Axon 40 series and its reveal on May 9th. Besides the launch date, Fei also talked about 2 “Core” surprises that we will get to see that day.

Fei didn’t reveal any specifics like new features or specifications of the 40 Series devices. But it was noticed that Fei made the post on Weibo using the ZTE Axon 40 Ultra, which is a part of the upcoming Axon 40 series. A previous rumor suggested that the Axon 40 series consists of three devices. The standard models are the Pro model and the Ultra model. Fei’s post from the Ultra model, more or less confirms the rumor.

Another image was shared on Weibo from the official ZTE account that provides an insight into the front design of the Axon 40 Series. The display seems extremely curved on the sides, and the top bezel is very thin, which provides the device with an almost bezel-less look. The front camera isn’t visible. The reason behind it is that it features an under-display camera like the predecessor Axon 30 5G and Axon 20 5G smartphones.

ZTE Axon 40 specifications (rumored)

The specifications for the Axon 40 series are complete speculation. But according to the leaks so far, the Axon 40 will carry a 6.67-inch OLED display with 400 PPI pixel density that supports Full HD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 20:9.

The device is also supposed to be equipped with an under-display fingerprint sensor. There hasn’t been any confirmation regarding this but if it comes true. The Axon 40 will have greater security.

The smartphone will be powered by a Qualcomm chip. Supposedly, it will be the Snapdragon 8 gen 1 SoC chip that clocks at 3.2GHz. The rumor also suggests that the 40 Series will come with different memory variants with a maximum RAM of 12GB and internal storage of 512GB or 1TB.

There are some leaks regarding the camera department too. According to the leaks, the 40 series is expected to come with 64-megapixel primary camera, 8-megapixel secondary sensor, and a 5-megapixel tertiary sensor.  There will also be a 44-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling.

Lastly, the device is expected to have the latest Android 12 with a custom skin and a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging.

These are all just based on leaks and rumors. There hasn’t been any official confirmation. But we will surely find out the validity of this information on May 9th.
