Xiaomi Poco X5 / Pro series phones released: up to Snapdragon 778G chip, 120Hz AMOLED screen

Xiaomi’s Poco X series usually offers a high refresh rate screen, high capacity fast-charging battery and value for money chips (leaving the flagship performance to the F series phones), and now the new Poco X5 and Poco X5 Pro series have been released in India and international markets.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro is further slimmer and lighter at 7.9 mm thick, making it the thinnest Poco X series phone to date.

Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro phone is powered by a Snapdragon 778G chip, including the Adreno 642L GPU, using TSMC’s 6nm process. It’s much faster than the Snapdragon 695 in the previous generation X4 Pro.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro phone features 6GB of LPDDR4X memory + 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, with an 8GB+256GB option and support for up to 5GB of virtual memory. It comes pre-installed with Android 12 and MIUI 14 for the Poco.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels, a refresh rate of 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 240Hz. it supports rendering 10bit colors and a 100% DCI-P3 color space. Brighter display at 900 nits peak (up from 700 nits). Supports 1920Hz PWM dimming. Covered with 5th generation Gorilla Glass.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro phone features a 108MP, 1/1.52-inch main camera sensor, plus an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera (120°) and 2MP macro camera, and a 16MP selfie camera on the front. 108MP main camera enables 4K video recording thanks to a faster chip.

The Snapdragon 778G brings a faster ISP (2 billion pixels per second) and a more powerful NPU (12TOPS of arithmetic power). The most obvious upgrade is the support for 4K@30fps video recording (the previous generation shot at 1080p@30fps). In addition, the camera is faster to use, for example, 69% faster for photos and 38% faster for night mode.

The new Snapdragon 778G chip also enables faster local connectivity via Wi-Fi 6 (ax) and Bluetooth 5.2 (upgraded from Wi-Fi 5 and BT 5.1). The phone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, IR transmitter and NFC (at least in some regions).

The phone also has a USB-C port to charge the 5000mAh battery at 67W fast charging power using the included charger.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro is available in blue, black and the brand’s signature yellow color.

Xiaomi Poco X5 Standard Edition

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Standard Edition retains the Snapdragon 695 chip from the X4 Pro, but doubles the base storage capacity to 128GB. 8GB+256GB storage version is also available with microSD expansion for up to 1TB.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 features a 6.67-inch display with the same FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate as the Pro. The 8it display is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. But the peak brightness is higher, at 1200 nits.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 features a 48MP main camera (limited to 1080p video capture due to the chip), 8MP ultra-wide angle camera (118°) and 2MP macro camera, and a 13MP selfie camera on the front.

The Xiaomi Poco X5 has a built-in 5000mAh battery, but the charging speed is reduced to 33W. A 33W adapter is included in the box, which allows for 0-100% charging in 68 minutes. Wireless connectivity features older Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.1, but also comes with a 3.5mm headset e jack, IR transmitter and NFC (in some regions).

The Xiaomi Poco X5 is priced at $250 / €250 for the standard 6GB+128GB (currently about RMB 1,698) and $300 / €300 for the 8GB+256GB (currently about RMB 2,037).

The Poco X5 Pro phone is priced at $300 / €300 for 6GB+128GB (currently around RMB 2037) and $350 / €350 for 8GB+256GB (currently around RMB 2377).

The Xiaomi Poco X5 Pro will be available in India next week (without the Poco X5 Standard Edition) for INR 23,000 for 6GB+128GB and INR 25,000 for 8GB+256GB (currently around RMB 1,058).
