Xiaomi has officially announced its partnership with Leica. A few hours ago, a video was released celebrating the collaboration with the German camera giant for a new smartphone that is set to launch in July.
The video doesn’t share any details about this upcoming Xiaomi smartphone, but speculation indicates this will the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. There have been several leaks in the past few months that pointed toward the Leica and Xiaomi partnership. So, it is safe to assume that the device in question is Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
As for the video, it is more about the collaboration itself. The video points out the collaborative research and development between these two companies that includes three engineers from Leica in the Beijing facility of Xiaomi. The video also raises expectations for the upcoming flagship. It said the smartphone will come with high-resolution lenses and new sensors that will provide high dynamic ranges.
At the moment, it is difficult to understand the state of the collaboration between these two giants. But it will be interesting for sure. Previously, Leica was partnered with Huawei, and the latter was known for the best smartphone cameras in the market during this partnership. However, the Leica/Huawei partnership ended on 31st March and it seems, Xiaomi is willing to take its place. On the other hand, people were also very excited about the OnePlus/Hasselblad partnership, but that hasn’t created any tangible results so far.
Xiaomi 12 Ultra specs (rumored)
Of course, Xiaomi didn’t share any official details on this new flagship but according to the latest post from the tip from the Digital Chat Station, the new device will feature a camera lens with a 12 – 120mm focal length. It will also have a 120X zoom and f/1.95-4.1 aperture.
This is mostly similar to Xiaomi’s previous flagship, the Mi 11 Ultra. That device also had a 48MP main camera that had 12mm of coverage. And the 120mm coverage area indicates the ultra-wide lens. The only difference is the main camera, which is said to be a 50MP Sony IMX800 lens, instead of the 50MP Samsung GN2 sensor. But the news on this new collaboration does indicate that the new Xiaomi 12 Ultra flagship will come up with something better and exciting, at least in the camera segment.
Besides the camera, the flagship is also expected to carry the latest Qualcomm flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
