Sales of Microsoft’s current-generation Xbox Series X|S have improved significantly, with sales so far nearly three times that of the previous generation console, the Xbox One, in the same period in which it was launched, but it is still a chasing attitude compared to the Xbox 360. Team Ninja president Yasuda Fumihiko said in an interview recently that Xbox has grown significantly in the Japanese market with the influence of Game Pass. But he also said that Nintendo still dominates the Japanese market.
Yasuda said: “We can feel the Xbox platform’s increased presence in the Japanese market, which is obvious.”
“We think Game Pass allows more players to start to understand the Xbox platform, and more and more users join in to play games and become players on this platform.”
“However, from our point of view, the Japanese market is still dominated by Nintendo and NS on a digital level. Of course, we can also clearly feel that Xbox is trying to gain a foothold in the Japanese market with this generation platform.”
According to data provided by Famitsu in September 2022, the sales of NS in the Japanese market have so far exceeded 26 million units, compared with 1.93 million units of PS5, and the sales of Xbox Series X|S are currently only 340,000 units.
