X Platform to Introduce New Semantic Search Technology to Handle User Searches

Elon Musk announced today that the X platform will add a “semantic search” function in the future to improve users’ ability to find relevant content on the platform.

Elon Musk said that this “semantic search” function is currently under development, and the first phase will focus on understanding content related to “recent event topics”, and will continue to expand more capabilities in the future.

Note: Semantic search is “contextual search combined with user big data”. Elon Musk tries to use this technology to understand the intention behind the user’s search for a keyword, so as to “precisely provide users with the content they need.”

Platform X’s current search technology only relies on matching keywords, for example, if a user searches for “Microsoft”, only posts containing the word “Microsoft” will appear in the search results. After adding the “semantic search” function, when users search for the word “Microsoft”, the X platform may provide users with Surface, Hololens, Lumia, Minecraft, etc. “Microsoft” actually roughly matches the content.

The foreign media The Verge believes that training the “semantic search” model requires a large user data database. The X platform has just officially announced that it will adopt “semantic search” technology. Therefore, compared with Google, Microsoft, etc., which use related technologies in search engines, Company X will take a while to catch up with them.
