World’s first three-wheeled flying car approved for test flight

With the continuous development of technology, flying cars have also moved from literature to real life. In addition to the conventional four-wheeled flying cars, there are also companies that choose to develop three-wheeled flying cars.

The world’s first flyable three-wheeled vehicle has received permission from the FAA to test-fly, METRO reported yesterday. According to the report, the three-wheeled flying car, which took 14 years to develop by Oregon-based Samson Sky, is worth £143,000 (about 1.154 million yuan) and is called Switchblade.

The Switchblade three-wheeled vehicle is reportedly 5.1 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, and can be parked in a regular parking space and driven on three tires. When users drive the car to the airport, the Switchblade three-wheeled car can deploy its wings and tail to become an airplane in less than three minutes.

Sam Bousfield, CEO and designer of Samson Sky, said the Switchblade three-wheeled vehicle is expected to take off at a travel speed of 88 miles per hour (about 141.62 kilometers per hour). In previous flight tests, the flying car could reach 98 miles per hour (about 157.72 kilometers per hour), which means it could complete its takeoff.

Bushell says 2,100 users have already reserved the Switchblade flying car, with reservations in 52 countries. Early bookers include NASA engineers, airline pilots, entrepreneurs and more.
