Windhawk released its 1.0 Beta update on the last day of 2022. It is a Windows customization software, developed by Ramen Software, the developer of 7+ Taskbar Tweaker. It is designed to improve the experience of customizing settings on Windows systems.
Unlike other Windows customization tools, Windhawk offers a rich set of mods to modify. It also provides official and third-party customization mods on its website, and developers can contribute their customization mods as well.
Software features
- Customize the taskbar clock – add seconds, define a custom date/time format, add a news feed, etc.
- Show all applications immediately after opening Windows 11 Start menu
- Control system volume by scrolling the taskbar
- Close programs by clicking the middle mouse button on the taskbar instead of creating a new instance
- Turn on dark mode for Notepad
- Make window layout smoother with sliding animations
- Disable grouping on the taskbar and create a separate button for each new window in the taskbar
- Use the mouse wheel to switch Chrome / Edge tabs
- Rearrange taskbar thumbnails with the left mouse button
- Replace any text with other text from any program
- Make taskbar icons large and clear, or small and compact (Win11 only)
- Tweak Microsoft Visual Studio Code by injecting custom JavaScript and CSS code
- Prevent programs from changing the resolution of Windows timers and increasing power consumption
- Show text labels of running programs on the taskbar (Win11 only)
- Automatically reject (or accept) dialogs from WinDbg informing that files have been changed
- Windhawk can be installed not only by means of an installer but also run by a portable application. The latter does not write the changes to the registry.
The main changelogs for Windhawk 1.0 Beta are as follows
- Mods now also include an update log, which lists the changes made to each version. To access this, select Details and switch to the changelog tab.
- Mods now have advanced options available; these include overriding the target process, exporting settings, and using the debug log feature.
- Advanced settings are open to all users. These advanced options include setting up “whitelisted processes” in Windhawk and not allowing any Mods to touch these processes. There are also options to hide the system tray icon, change the coarseness of logging or mod initialization dialog delay, etc.
- Right-clicking on the system tray icon will display an option to show all loaded mods.
- The UAC is no longer required to load Windhawk’s user interface.
Windhawk 1.0 Beta also fixes several bugs. The developers have improved compatibility with the Firefox web browser, fixed an error warning caused by incorrect memory release, and an issue with enabling previously disabled mods after updating.
