Windows 11 22621.819 released, Microsoft announces reduction in December updates

With the arrival of another update, Microsoft also pushed the latest KB5019980 (OS build 22621.819) version update for Win11, while 21H2 also received KB5019961 update, while Win10 is KB5019959.

At the same time, Microsoft also announced that there will be no preview (referred to as “C” version) updates in December 2022 due to the lack of updates during the Christmas holidays and the upcoming New Years. There will be only one security update called “B” version this December. Normal monthly service for subsequent B and C releases will resume in January 2023.

Having said that, in fact, this 22621.819 has no major functional changes. The new version only fixes some bugs and security vulnerabilities that affect the file explorer.

Microsoft said that if you installed the KB5018496 update released on October 25, you will experience some issues with File Explorer, while KB5019980 resolves issues affecting File Explorer, such as the inability to localize folders.

Microsoft said that there are two known issues in this version:

Using provisioning packages (.PPKG files) on Windows 11, the 22H2 version may not work as expected. Microsoft explained that this is because Windows may only be partially configured, and if you use OOBE, it may not be able to complete the configuration or restart suddenly.

On version 22H2, it may take longer than expected if the user copies a file that is too large (several Gs). This issue is relatively more likely to be encountered when copying files from a network share to Windows 11 22H2 via Server Message Block (SMB), but local file copying may also be affected.

For the issue with provisioning packages, Microsoft has only stated that it is investigating, and the file copy issue provides a temporary solution, which you can mitigate by disabling the file copy tool of the cache manager (buffered I/O):

"robocopy\someserver\someshare c:\somefolder somefile.img /J"

or

"xcopy \\someserver\someshare c:\somefolder /J"
