Apple has expanded orders for iPhone 14 components, in contrast to the Android device camp, which is faltering, according to DigiTimes. Apple has reportedly increased its component orders to suppliers ahead of the September launch of the iPhone 14 lineup. This contrasts with a range of Android brands, which continue to face sluggish sales, according to supply chain sources speaking to DigiTimes.
Apple is believed to be the only smartphone supplier that has maintained steady sales in recent months, with a significant year-over-year increase in sales. After cutting initial chip orders for the iPhone 14 model in anticipation of declining market demand, good sales of the current iPhone lineup have inspired Apple to boost its stocking efforts later this year. This coincides with a report earlier this month that said Apple’s iPhone 14 models are expected to sell better than the iPhone 13 series.
iPhone sales usually slow down during the July-August period as customers expect new models to be introduced in September, but iPhone 13 shipments this July reportedly remained a third higher than a year ago, suggesting continued demand for the device, to the point where users don’t even consider that the device is about to become obsolete. Apple is said to have informed suppliers that the first wave of iPhone 14 sales are expected to be higher than those of iPhone 13.
Meanwhile, the mid-to low-end smartphone market, dominated by Android devices, has been struggling for the past year due to waning demand. Android chip supplier MediaTek has reportedly seen its customers cut orders by as much as 30 percent, and it’s not hard to see from the sidelines that the smartphone industry is going through its own cold winter under the rolling heat.
Apple is believed to have started trial production of the iPhone 14 series and plans to start mass production in August before going on sale in September.
