Volvo Cars has always focused on crossovers in the field of electric vehicles, but this is about to change. Recently, a Volvo prototype code-named V551 officially rolled off the production line. According to previous news, it is speculated that the car will be Volvo’s first pure electric sedan, and is likely to be The electric version of Volvo S90 may be named ES90 in the future. It is reported that the new car will begin mass production in May 2024 and is expected to be officially released in 2025.
It is reported that the V551 will be built on the same SPA2 platform as the Polestar 3 and Volvo EX90. It is also “the first new global model to be developed led by the Shanghai engineering team.”
The car is expected to enter production in May 2024 and feature the same 111 kWh battery pack as the EX90. For reference, the EX90’s dual-motor all-wheel drive system has a maximum power of 402 horsepower (300 kW) and a peak torque of 769 Nm. It also provides a high-performance version with a maximum power increase of 496 horsepower (370 kW) and a peak torque of 769 Nm. 909 cattle·meters.
In terms of body size, the length, width and height of the V551 are 4999/1946/1547mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 3102mm. Compared to the current S90, the V551 has a 41mm longer wheelbase but is 100mm shorter overall.
