Volkswagen has decided to cooperate with other automakers to revive the Scout as an electric vehicle in Europe.
A report by local media Kleine Zeitung in Graz, Austria, shows that the company has received orders worth about 450 million euros.
Graz-based Magna Steyr will reportedly be responsible for developing two Volkswagen Scout electric vehicles, including an electric pickup truck and an SUV, which are expected to go on sale in the United States in early 2027, with series production planned to begin in late 2026.
The report cited multiple sources familiar with the matter as saying that development work is already underway in Graz and the United States. Magna mainly produces off-road vehicles, including the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, at its Graz plant, and this order is their largest development contract to date.
At a Scout press conference last May, Volkswagen said it would create a separate company to “design, engineer and build pickup trucks and off-road SUVs” and call it Scout Motors.
Earlier this year, Volkswagen revealed that the electric SUV would cost around $40,000.
