Volkswagen launches ID XTREME all-wheel drive pure electric off-road vehicle

As an old-fashioned fuel car company, Volkswagen has also been working hard to prove its strong competitiveness in the EV market through the ID series concept models in recent years. This week, for example, the company unveiled a rather crude and aggressive ID XTREME electric all-wheel drive off-road model. As a concept SUV, it’s based on the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX and incorporates some modern performance upgrades.

Clearly, the car leader also wants to be a leader in the fast-growing EV market. The Volkswagen CEO even said that by 2025, it is expected to take the top spot from Tesla.

"The company has now established itself with the launch of the ID.4, an affordable EV that starts at $37,495.

In addition, Volkswagen plans to manufacture the 2023 ID.4 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to qualify for the $7,500 tax credit provided by the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act."

On his first day in office, VW’s new CEO laid out a plan to accelerate EV production to continue the momentum built by his predecessor.

And with the release of the ID XTREME, Volkswagen is targeting these unique owners who want to explore adventures in a variety of places.

As an event for ID and sustainability enthusiasts, Volkswagen showcased the ID XTREME pure electric concept model during the Tinco event on Friday.

The EV builds on the high-performance ID.4 GTX, but VW has turned the sporty flagship into a rugged off-road machine.

"The ID.4 GTX has two motors with a maximum output of 220 kW, but the ID XTREME also has a higher performance motor on the rear axle.

Thanks to the software upgrade of the drive control unit, the ID XTREME has increased the power by around 30% (+65 kW) – for a total output of 285 kW."

It is worth mentioning that Volkswagen has also selected a mature MEB modular platform for ID XTREME, which is led and operated by Andreas Reckewerth, head of Volkswagen’s vehicle R&D department.

In addition, Silke Bagshik, head of the MEB product line, explained that the modular electric drive matrix has huge technical potential.

Finally, for many of the company’s customers, a vehicle is more than just a means of transportation. And with the launch of ID XTREME, they are taking the performance of their electric vehicles to a whole new level.

At the same time, Volkswagen is looking forward to positive feedback from EV enthusiasts on the experience of using the vehicle, and the company will decide how to proceed based on the feedback from the community.

Here are the key highlights of the Volkswagen ID XTREME:

"● 18-inch off-road wheels

● Additional front bumper, improved crash bar.

● 50mm widened flanks for a rugged off-road look.

● Equipped with overhead LED searchlight

● Adopt all-wheel electric drive scheme"
