As part of a marketing campaign, Volkswagen has created an office chair that not only looks like the captain’s chair in Star Trek, but can also be used in the office on its own five wheels. The speed is up to 20 kilometers per hour, which is surprisingly fast for a seat.
According to Volkswagen, the chair has a replaceable battery with a range of up to 12 kilometers.
This chair is packed full of features, with 360-degree crash sensors, a reversing camera with full navigation, heated embroidered seats, party lights, a touchscreen monitor, a USB charger, and a trailer hitch. Of course, LED headlights, seat belts and speakers are not absent, and there’s even a “trunk” (actually a pocket) that can hold documents or a laptop.
Volkswagen also released a behind-the-scenes video that introduced the process of building the chair, as well as some shots of the finished product. Volkswagen said the chair will be available for test drives at various locations.
