Volkswagen and Xpeng will cooperate to produce two B-class cars this year

Based on news from the Associated Press, automobile blogger “Electric Pickle” and other news, during today’s Volkswagen Group (China) New Year Media Communication Conference, the Chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group (China) Baird announced that Volkswagen will cooperate with Xpeng Motors to produce two B-class vehicles this year.

At the event, Bai Ruide connected with He Xiaopeng, chairman and CEO of Xpeng Motors. He Xiaopeng said that the cooperation between Xpeng Motors and Volkswagen China is very efficient. Through cooperation, Xpeng will bring changes to Volkswagen in terms of localization and intelligence; Xpeng Motors will learn automotive engineering technology, production quality management system, and how to reduce costs through the supply chain from Volkswagen, and jointly develop products that combine software and hardware.

He Xiaopeng also revealed at the event, “Xpeng will have a very high goal this year.”

Xpeng Motors repeatedly disclosed the progress of the cooperation models between the two parties last year: In December, Xpeng announced through an announcement that the feasibility study of the two B-class pure electric vehicle models jointly developed by the two parties has achieved positive results and has been completed. Deeper strategic cooperation in smart electric vehicle technology.

In October last year, He Xiaopeng posted on Weibo that he visited the Wolfsburg headquarters of the Volkswagen Group at the end of September. “The technical teams of both parties are like an entrepreneurial team, fully committed and moving forward at full speed for the common goal; the strategic cooperation promoted in the supply chain will bring us the potential to jointly reduce costs.”

Attached event background: On July 26 last year, Volkswagen announced that it would invest approximately US$700 million in Xpeng and hold 4.99% of the company’s shares. After the transaction is completed, Volkswagen will receive an observer seat on Xpeng’s board of directors.

Xpeng Motors said that Volkswagen will build two B-class SUVs based on the Xpeng G9 platform, from hardware to software. Xpeng provides the platform and technology, and Volkswagen does engineering research, design, and manufacturing.
