The first two models will be launched in 2026. This product is an SUV model.
“The first SUV jointly produced by Volkswagen and Xpeng”
“Xpeng G9”
As can be seen from the preview image of the first SUV officially released by Volkswagen, this pure electric SUV has a slender body, narrow light groups at the front and rear, and a relatively straight roof line, which means that it may focus on home use scenes. This also reminds us of Xpeng’s G9 model – Xpeng has previously said that Xpeng will provide the platform and technology, and Volkswagen will do engineering research and development, design and manufacturing, and the new car will be built based on the G9 platform.
Volkswagen and Xpeng Motors have signed a technical cooperation agreement for joint development of platforms and software, achieving another important milestone in their strategic partnership. In December 2023, Volkswagen Group completed the acquisition of 4.99% of the total issued and outstanding share capital of Xpeng Motors. Through technological cooperation, the Volkswagen brand will rapidly and specifically expand its existing product portfolio.
According to the agreement, the two parties will purchase shared vehicle and platform parts through a joint procurement plan. Relying on this solution and the Volkswagen Group’s strong supply chain system, this plan aims to create cost advantages and make the mid-sized intelligent connected models jointly developed by both parties more economically competitive. Through joint procurement and the application of innovative technologies in the vehicle design and engineering stages, product development cycles will be shortened by more than 30%.
