Volkswagen and Ellia Group sign MoU to jointly explore V2G technology

Volkswagen Group announced on Friday that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ellia Group to explore V2G technology and how it could help stabilize the energy grid while rewarding drivers of electric vehicles. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology has huge potential as more and more electric vehicles hit the road.

Electric vehicle batteries have incredible storage capacity, which is a significant advantage as countries turn to renewable energy. Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar are incredibly valuable, but there are barriers.

Elia is the Belgian high-voltage transmission operator responsible for maintaining electricity supply and demand. The company believes electric vehicles can be a key asset in balancing the grid, calling them “batteries on wheels.”

Volkswagen is joining Elia’s plans as the automaker accelerates the transition to sustainable mobility and explores how V2G technology can help integrate electric vehicles for a superior energy network.
