Valve’s Neon Prime revealed, the third-person MOBA-Lite shooting game

Valve registered a game software trademark called “Neon Prime” in October last year. Now it seems that this is the next third-person shooting game being developed by Valve.

@Tyler McVicker has interviewed some of the people involved in the project and managed to get some great information about the game.

Summarizes it as follows:

  • Third-person ‘MOBA-Lite’ competitive shooter with class- and team-based features and ‘huge’, fully destructible map
  • Two teams compete on a very large map with the ultimate goal of defeating the final boss behind the other team’s base
  • Each class has unique abilities and personality (comparable to TF2)
  • A sci-fi setting with a “DOTA-related” background
  • The map is so huge that you can even rely on “trains” to take you around
  • Voxel-based destruction allows for almost fully destructible maps (similar to Teardown)
  • Different classes can issue “commands” to their team

According to gaming blogger Tyler McVicker, “Neon Prime” is a third-person MOBA competitive game, and the lead game designer on the project is IceFrog. There are subtle “indirect” connections between the worldview and “DOTA”, “Half-Life”, and “Team Fortress”. In terms of gameplay, it is roughly a mixture of the experiences of “DOTA2”, “Team Fortress 2”, “Overwatch”, and “Plants vs. Zombies”.

In addition, Tyler McVicker also said that the game will have PvP and PvE modes, and each character will have a different career. The graphics will be presented in a cartoon style, so it will be more reminiscent of “Team Fortress” rather than the more realistic “CS:GO”.

Tyler McVicker also revealed that the main body of “Neon Prime” has been roughly developed and is currently in closed testing. The game will be released in 2024, but more information will be officially announced as early as this year.
