Valve: Counter Strike 2 will be launched this summer, game’s limited testing will start today

Valve today officially announced the new sequel to the Counter-Strike series – Counter-Strike 2. The new game, developed using the Origin 2 (Source2) engine, will be officially launched this summer, with free upgrades for CS:GO players and will serve as a free alternative to CS:GO.

Valve said it is starting a closed limited beta for CS2 today, which it described as “a complete overhaul of every system, every piece of content, and every part of the CS experience. According to the report, the number of spots will gradually increase during the closed beta, mainly related to the recent official server play time, reputation score, account length, etc.

All in all, the new work has made changes to the smoke system, lighting, water, particle effects, etc. will also be changed, and the visual effects and UI of accessories will also be optimized. Most importantly, Valve agency introduced a mechanism called “sub-refresh rate” for it, which greatly improves the game experience.

(Note: “Sub-refresh rate” is the server’s refresh technology, which avoids the delay between the server tick and the player’s operation by subdividing the tick. This technology has nothing to do with the refresh rate of the player’s display device)

Valve Agency took the lead in introducing three new features of this work: Sub-tick delay compensation system, brand new dynamic smoke system, and upgraded, modified, and remade maps. The player’s CS:GO inventory will be synced into Counter-Strike 2. All trinkets will be compatible with Source 2 lighting and textures.

COUNTER-STRIKE
The Next Era of Counter-Strike 2 presents the biggest technological leap in Counter-Strike history, with years of new features and updates guaranteed.

When the game is officially announced this summer, all the new features of the game will be announced one by one. And the road to Counter-Strike 2 begins today with the CS2 Limited Beta. During this beta, we'll be evaluating new CS2 features and hoping to refine them before the global release.

This summer, CS:GO will make a smooth transition with a free upgrade to Counter-Strike 2. So clean and prime your guns, hone your skills, and get ready for game updates.

Great progress:
brand new map

All maps were built entirely from the ground up, taking full advantage of all the tools and rendering features in the new Source 2 engine.

upgrade map

These maps use the new Source 2 lighting, including a physically based rendering system that produces realistic materials, lighting, and reflections.

touchstone map

Classic maps with a solid foundation that players can use to evaluate gameplay changes from CS:GO to Counter-Strike 2. The map has been improved in terms of lighting and character understanding, but otherwise unchanged.

Move beyond refresh rate:
what you see is what you get

No longer hindered by refresh rate when moving, shooting or throwing. Updates to sub-refresh rates are at the heart of Counter-Strike 2. Previously, the server only evaluated the world at discrete time intervals (called ticks). Thanks to Counter-Strike 2's sub-refresh update architecture, the server knows the exact moment when movement starts, a gun is fired, or a projectile is thrown.

The upshot is that, regardless of the refresh rate, your movement and shooting will react the same way, and your projectiles will always land the same way.

Responsive Smoke:
game changer

Smoke bombs are now 3D dynamic objects that interact with the environment and react to lighting, gunshots and explosions.

Gameplay

Smoke can now interact with other game behaviors and events, creating new opportunities. Bullets and high-explosive grenades can push smoke, briefly clearing line of sight or accentuating occlusion effects.

expand naturally and fill the space

Now, smoke will seep from everywhere, including open doorways, broken windows, and up and down stairs. But also spread into the corridor and combine with other smoke.

light response

In Counter-Strike 2, smoke particles interact with the integrated lighting system for more realistic lighting and color effects.

Your items will have a new display
Your entire CS:GO inventory will be carried over to Counter-Strike 2. Not only will you keep every item you've collected over the years, but those items will all benefit from Source 2's lighting and texture effects.

In addition to supporting legacy models and weapon skins, all weapons in the inventory have been refreshed with high-res models, and some weapon skins benefit from these new models.

High-quality visual effects
From the interface to the gameplay, all visual effects have been redefined. All visuals in Counter-Strike 2 have been updated. With Source 2's lighting and particle systems, water, explosions, fire, smoke, muzzle flashes, tracers, impact effects, and more all have a new look and behavior.

Gameplay Visualization

In Counter-Strike 2, the most critical game visuals have been reworked with readability in mind. Bullet impacts can be easily seen from a distance, and the directional blood effects (which dissipate over time) give you more information as you move around the map.

environmental effects

Experience completely reworked explosions, fire, C4 lighting and more. Leveraging the Source 2 engine and advanced hardware, the visual fidelity and coherence of Counter-Strike 2's environments has been improved.

User Interface Optimization

The user interface in Counter-Strike 2 has been completely overhauled, including new visual effects. These improvements not only look good, but communicate important game states.

precise sound
rework, re-equalize, re-reverb

Sound effects in Counter-Strike 2 have been reworked to better reflect the physical environment, making them more unique and conveying more of the game state. It also rebalances the sound effects for a more comfortable listening experience."
