V Society responded to Steam Deck certain models of SSD shrinkage: Does not affect the performance

Previously it was reported on the Steam Deck some models of SSD shrinkage, there are many people worried that this will affect the game performance. Recently Valve responded, saying it would not affect game performance. According to IGN, a Valve spokesperson said, “In order to improve inventory and production efficiency, many Steam Deck components come from multiple suppliers. One of our SSD suppliers provides PCIe Gen 3 x4 (quad-channel specifications) NVMe SSDs, while another provides PCIe Gen 3 x2 (dual-channel specifications) SSDs.

The Steam Deck team has conducted extensive testing on both sizes of SSDs and determined that there is no impact on game performance.”

“SSD performance is currently determined by factors unrelated to PCIe bandwidth. In extremely uncommon cases, differences in read/write speed caps may have a small impact on file transfer speeds, but OS performance, load times, game performance and game responsiveness are the same between the X2 and X4 SSDs.”

Valve’s new strategy to improve productivity seems to be working, as last week Valve announced that it will significantly ramp up shipments of the Steam Deck. Buying components from different suppliers will also speed up the shipment of the Steam Deck.
