Using Tesla Megapack, Pillswood Europe’s largest battery energy storage project launched

Harmony Energy Income Trust announced the official launch of the Pillswood project, which will become the largest battery energy storage system (BESS) in Europe after completion. The Pillswood project consists of Tesla Megapacks (approximately 3 MWh each), which can store up to 196 MWh and have a maximum output of 98 MW, providing electricity for two hours at full power.

The Pillswood project, located in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, UK, has been successfully electrified. The project will “provide critical balancing services” to the grid network, with the goal of further displacing fossil fuel power plants with renewable energy.

The Pillswood project said: “Operating through Autobidder, Tesla’s algorithmic trading platform, which has demonstrated a proven track record in managing the Holes Bay and Contego projects over the past two years, two existing battery storage projects as well. Developed jointly by Harmony Energy Limited and FRV”.

Harmony Energy Income Trust intends to deploy five more similar projects in 2023, likely also in cooperation with Tesla, indicating that the BEES market is growing rapidly.
