After 2 years of investigating the terms of the Apple App Store app, British regulators have announced another extension of this investigation until May of this year.
In March 2021, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) launched an antitrust investigation into Apple’s App Store. The investigation focuses on the 30 percent commission Apple charges developers and the use of Apple’s services in the app payment system.
The CMA said in a statement released in 2021 that the investigation would determine whether Apple has a dominant position in the distribution of apps for Apple devices in the UK, based on which it would investigate whether Apple has imposed unfair or anti-competitive terms on app developers, ultimately resulting in reduced user choice and higher fees.
