A spate of car thefts recently occurred in the U.S. Bay Area, and with a pair of stolen AirPods, police were able to quickly pinpoint the suspects and eventually make an arrest through the Find My app. Citing local media Berkeleyside reported this Thursday that Berkeley police arrested a man and a woman in July this year during an investigation into car thefts in the San Francisco-area city.
According to information provided by the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Oakland deputies tracked down a pair of stolen AirPods through Find My, which eventually led to a lock on the two suspects. Deputies then located the car based on the location on a car parked in a Walgreens parking lot, which was one of a series of cars lost in a recent string of auto thefts.
The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office sent an aircraft to track the car. The suspect fled from an attempted stop in Oakland. The chase led officers through multiple cities, including Oakland, San Leandro, Richmond, Albany and Berkeley. Police eventually found the suspects in Berkeley and intercepted the Audi vehicle they were driving.
