According to the Wall Street Journal, the US electric truck manufacturer Nikola has started the construction of a hydrogen plant. Nikola is competing in the emerging market for zero-emission trucks as part of a fuel supply network it intends to build.
Nikola also has contracts with some hydrogen producers. The manufacturer agrees to supply hydrogen for Nikola vehicles in the US and parts of Canada. Nikola seeks to provide enough hydrogen to fuel approximately 7,500 heavy-duty trucks by 2026.
The planned supply network is critical to Nikola’s strategy to begin assembling hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks for the market later this year, the report said. Unlike battery electric vehicles, which can be recharged with electricity in many existing locations, Nikola’s trucks require hydrogen to keep going.
It is worth mentioning that Nikola’s name is similar to Tesla, in memory of a physicist – Nikola Tesla.
