Korean whistleblower yeux1122 learned from a parts manufacturer that the 128GB version of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series will use UFS 3.1 flash memory, while other versions will be equipped with more advanced UFS 4.0 flash memory.
Analysts believe that this is a decision made by Samsung to control costs. It has also been reported that Samsung is trying to avoid increasing the price of the Galaxy S24 series due to component price increases.
The speed of UFS 4.0 has been significantly improved compared to UFS 3.1. The sequential reading speed is twice that of the latter, and the sequential writing speed is more than twice that of the latter. At the same time, the power consumption is reduced by 46%. For users, this means faster loading of apps and games, faster file saving, and improved efficiency for memory-intensive applications.
Currently, many flagship phones, including the OnePlus 11, have adopted UFS 4.0 flash memory, but there are also models like the Pixel 8 that still use UFS 3.1. Although UFS 3.1 is not outdated in terms of current use, and it is difficult for most users to feel the actual difference between the two, in the long run, UFS 4.0 is obviously a more forward-looking choice.
The leak also claims that in addition to storage, the standard Galaxy S24 will be equipped with 8GB of RAM, while the Plus and Ultra versions will have 12GB of RAM. However, there is a very small possibility that the standard model will also be available in a 12GB RAM version in some regions.
Samsung will hold a Galaxy S24 series new phone launch conference on January 17 next year, when all questions will be revealed.
