The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a free next-generation update official answer

CDPR held a free next-generation update of “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” early this morning to showcase the many improvements coming to this classic RPG game live.

This evening, CDPR officials focused on answering many of the questions that players had.

"Q: What is the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt?

A: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next Generation Edition is a free update for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X on December 14, 2022, where players will experience unprecedented visual improvements, performance enhancements, new content and photo modes, all backed by Chinese voice acting.

Q: How do I get the next-gen version of the game?

A: The next-gen version of the game will be available for free to all players who own the game. The game will automatically update to the next-gen version on PC and Xbox Series S|X platforms; we will also provide update instructions for PlayStation 5 platforms closer to launch.

Q: My PC does not support ray tracing technology / I only have an Xbox One, PlayStation 4, or Nintendo Switch, what do I get?

A: If your PC does not support ray tracing technology, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will still run on DirectX 11 after the update. You can still experience the Chinese voice acting, improved gameplay, and new content that comes with the update. These non-graphics improvements and content will also be available later for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch players.

Q: I'm a console player, will my game have Simplified Chinese subtitles and Chinese dubbing?

A: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive Simplified Chinese subtitles and Chinese dubbing on console platforms. Please note: If your current version of the game does not support Traditional Chinese subtitles, you will not be able to get Simplified Chinese subtitles and dubbing.

Q: I'm a physical player, can I get the next-gen version?

A: Yes, as long as your next-gen console supports disc reading!

Q: I purchased the base version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, what version will I get after the next-gen version is updated?

A: You will receive the next-gen version of the base game. If you wish to experience Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, please consider upgrading your game to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Game of the Year Edition."

Additionally, Xbox will automatically update to the next-gen version through Smart Distribution, and PlayStation 5 will require a new download. The archive supports inheritance, PC and Xbox will synchronize achievements, and the PlayStation 5 next-gen version will have a new set of trophies.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen free update will hit PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X platforms on December 14, 2022, bringing unprecedented visual improvements and performance enhancements, as well as new content, photo mode and more, and also bringing simplified Chinese dubbing to domestic players.
