According to 505 Games’ parent company Digital Bros’ latest financial report, the anthropomorphic racing game “Godricosa 2” is planned to be released in the spring of 2024.
Developer Kunos Simulazioni and publisher 505 Games confirmed as early as 2021 that a sequel to the long-running realistic racing game “Scorpio” would be coming, but no news has been set.
As of late December 2022, the “Shenlikosha” series had sold 28 million copies, generating $112 million (currently about RMB 772 million) in revenue.
The developer Kunos Simulazioni has chosen to develop a custom game engine for “Scorpio 2”. Marco Massarutto, the co-founder of the studio, explained in a 2022 podcast interview the reasons for not upgrading to Unreal Engine 5.
It will not use the latest Unreal Engine 5, we are developing new technologies for the engine of Shenmue Kosa 2. We won’t be using the Unreal Engine because we need more flexibility. The Unreal Engine is an amazing technology, but we are used to working on it ourselves …… We like to think of ourselves as technology providers, not just game developers. We prefer to work on our own technology because it allows us to create the specific tools and racing simulation features we need.
