This time, Apple added a mode called “sleep” for the wallpaper, in this mode, the wallpaper will reduce the brightness, and contrast to save power. This is similar to the working mechanism of the Apple Watch 5 and other watch products that already support the constant display of the rest screen.
As iOS 16 has made great changes to the lock screen, adding widgets and increasing the priority of the portrait wallpaper display are considered to be preparing for the constant display of the rest screen.
However, for power-saving reasons, it is likely that only the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max will be able to turn on the constant rest screen display, as their LTPO displays can achieve a minimum refresh rate of 1Hz.
Of course, this is not absolute, because iOS 16 code shows that by turning on internal mode, Apple is also testing the rest screen display feature on the iPhone 13.
