The Apple-1 computer prototype developed by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs back in the day is reportedly being auctioned off at RR Auction, where it was hand-soldered by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak in 1976. The auction started last Wednesday and by Friday morning the price had shot up to $230,000 (about $1.55 million), with the sale ending on Aug. 18.
It was because of this prototype computer that Jobs and Wozniak got their first big order in 1976, when the Apple founder showed the prototype to computer store owner Paul Terrell.
The prototype suffered minor damage, such as a thin slit on it that extended from the power supply area. Nonetheless, the prototype is still valuable and rare after all, and it could end up selling for as much as $500,000.
Last year, an Apple-1 computer built in Steve Jobs’ home fetched a high price of $400,000, it was designed by Wozniak and only 200 units were built that year, and another Apple-1 computer was successfully auctioned for $470,000 in London in 2022.
