Elon Musk sent out a teaser that he will announce the location of a new Tesla factory by the end of this year. But Musk strongly hinted that the new factory will be located in Canada. For the last year, Musk has been talking about the location of Tesla’s new super factory. At Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting today, Musk again referred to the upcoming announcement, saying Tesla could be ready to announce a new location “later this year.
After teasing that time, Musk asked Tesla investors, “Where should we build it?” After investors offered a bunch of different locations, Musk said, “A lot of our employees are Canadian. I’m also half Canadian, so should I be?”
Musk was born in South Africa to a Canadian mother. This is actually the second time Musk has hinted that Tesla’s next factory could be in Canada. in June, Electrek obtained a recording of a company-wide meeting held by Musk in which he confirmed that Tesla was looking for a North American factory.
In response to an employee’s question: Where will Tesla’s next factory be located in the United States? Musk said Tesla has not yet made a decision, but he did make it clear that it might not be in the U.S.: “We are looking for the right site, but we are looking at expanding our site selection to North America, including Canada and Mexico, as well as the U.S.”
