The first batch of Tesla’s fourth-generation supercharging pile has been officially put into use in the Netherlands.
Tesla’s fourth-generation supercharger piles feature a new design and longer charging cables to facilitate charging of third-party electric vehicles, providing a higher charging power of 250 kW than the third-generation supercharger piles. The fourth-generation Supercharger is said to be available only for Tesla models, and is expected to be open to other non-Tesla models in the future.
Tesla has not revealed any new information about the fourth-generation Supercharger, other than the apparently longer charging cable. It’s a good thing that some local Tesla owners went to this newly built charging station to give us more insight into its power. One Tesla owner found the charger’s EV specs, which show a voltage rating of 1,000 volts and a current rating of 615 amps, meaning a theoretical total maximum power output of 600 kilowatts. The highest rated output in actual use is difficult to maintain or even reach all the time, and most current Tesla cars can’t even accept that much power.
