The US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla announced on March 1st that it will set up a super factory in Mexico. According to Taiwan media Central News Agency, Pegatron, one of Tesla’s suppliers, announced yesterday that it would expand its factory in Mexico, but declined to disclose the product category.
Taiwan media pointed out that Pegatron Mexico S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of Pegatron Mexico, announced that it had acquired the Ciudad Juárez (Chihuahua) in northern Mexico for US$10.72 million (currently about 74.397 million CNY). Ciudad Juarez with a leased area of 22,296.53 square meters.
Mexican officials have previously said that Tesla will spend about $5 billion (currently about 34.7 billion CNY) to build a large factory in Monterrey, northern Mexico. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company has chosen Mexico as its next “Gigafactory” to produce “the next generation of cars.”
In addition, Pegatron plans to spend about 300 million U.S. dollars (currently about 2.082 billion CNY) to 350 million U.S. dollars (currently about 2.429 billion CNY) in capital expenditure this year, mainly for global expansion of factories in Southeast Asia and Mexico and updating machinery and equipment.
