Tesla said on Thursday, local time, that as the automaker continues to expand its network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles in North America, Europe and Asia, it is turning to the public to help determine the location of its next Supercharger station.
The company’s @TeslaCharging account wrote in a tweet Thursday, “Voting for Superchargers will begin soon. Responses to location suggestions – those with the most likes will be included in the poll.”
The online vote comes as Tesla prepares to open its Supercharger network to other electric vehicles by the end of the year. The network’s launch could help Tesla attract new buyers while boosting traffic and profits across the Supercharger network. It could also put pressure on the network, especially in areas like California where Tesla and other electric vehicles have a high percentage of ownership.
The responses that received the most praise so far suggested Alaska, Hawaii and Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Responses also showed a high demand for national parks in the U.S., where vacationers often travel long distances through rural areas to reach them.
Tesla already operates more than 35,000 Supercharger stations worldwide and allows drivers to add 200 miles in 15 minutes.
