According to reports, documents released today by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that Tesla will recall about 48,184 Model 3 high-performance electric vehicles in the United States because the cars may not be in “track mode”. Displays speed units.

The recall concerns vehicles manufactured between 2018 and 2022. Tesla will address the issue with a remote software update. Tesla said a firmware update released in December inadvertently removed the speed unit from the user interface.

The vehicles do not meet federal motor vehicle safety standards and could increase the risk of a crash if drivers don’t know how fast they are going, NHTSA said.

Over the past year, Tesla has conducted multiple recalls, including some under pressure from the NHTSA. Today, Tesla also separately recalled a 2022 Model X vehicle for not having a bracket installed on the second row of seats.

NHTSA also said Tesla issued a total of 10 recalls this year, covering 2.1 million vehicles.
