Tesla plans to produce 375,000 Cybertruck electric pickup trucks a year

According to information sent to suppliers by Tesla, the company plans to produce 375,000 Cybertruck electric pickups per year and launch the candidate by the end of August.

Tesla’s website shows Cybertruck is scheduled for delivery “by the end of the third quarter,” which means around the end of September 2023.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk also recently gave production projections for the Tesla Cybertruck at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting. He believes it could produce about 250,000 new vehicles per year, but he later added that it could be between 250,000 and 500,000.

Now, Electrek has more details from internal and supplier communications that Tesla has sent to suppliers of the Cybertruck project (which is called Project Everest).

Tesla is asking suppliers to plan for a base production of 375,000 Cybertrucks per year. That seems a bit more aggressive than Musk publicly stated at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting, but it’s within reason as Tesla has been constantly adjusting.

According to communications with suppliers, Tesla plans to release the first Cybertruck candidate (release candidates), or “pre-production vehicles,” in late August. This is the final step before production begins. Based on the current timeline, the Cybertruck should be in production around early October.

Tesla suppliers also noted that Tesla’s deliveries are only for employees and Tesla insiders, just as they were for the initial Model Y launch.
