Tesla officially confirms home inductive charger in development

Tesla has finally taken a big step into the field of wireless charging. Following hints earlier this year, the company has officially confirmed that it is developing a wireless induction charging system suitable for home use. charger.

In the past, Tesla has had little interest in wireless charging technology. After all, compared to manual plug-in charging, the convenience improvement brought by wireless charging is not disruptive. However, as Tesla’s autonomous driving technology continues to develop, the advantages of wireless charging are gradually emerging. Just imagine, when a car can drive itself home, automatic charging without human intervention will be crucial.

It is noticed that although Tesla preferred automatic robotic arm charging solutions in the past, the trend has changed recently. Earlier this year, Tesla showed off a mysterious wireless home charging station in a demonstration but gave no further details. The company then acquired a start-up company focused on wireless charging technology and recruited some of its core technical staff before selling it. These moves indicate Tesla’s hidden ambitions in the field of wireless charging.

Now, Tesla has finally officially confirmed the development of a wireless home charger. In Jay Leno’s video about the Cybertruck, Tesla chief designer Franz von Holzhausen confirmed the news, saying: “We are working on inductive charging technology where you don’t even need to plug anything in. Just Just drive the car to the charging pad in the garage and it will start charging automatically.” Although the details have not yet been revealed, it is undoubtedly of great significance for Tesla to officially take this step.

Tesla’s entry into the wireless home charging market is both exciting and worrying. The expectation is that this technology can further improve the convenience of electric vehicle users and contribute to the development of autonomous driving technology; the worry is that the high cost may limit this technology to a small number of wealthy users and fail to popularize it among the masses.
