Elon Musk said on the company’s earnings call, “We expect to hold a big delivery event in the third quarter”, “Cybertruck deliveries… hopefully in the third quarter of this year around the end of the year.”
But it now appears that Tesla is not holding a Cybertruck delivery event in the third quarter of 2023, as Musk had hoped.
In fact, this isn’t the first delay for the Cybertruck, an electric pickup truck that was released in 2019 and was originally scheduled to begin production in 2021.
According to the Wall Street Journal, more than 500,000 people had reserved the truck as of 2020 alone, and the latest number is closer to 2 million, with each person required to put down roughly a $100 deposit. Based on the starting price, the Tesla Cybertruck’s order value has exceeded $80 billion, and deposits have already reached $200 million (currently about RMB 1.46 billion).
Electrek reported last week that Tesla employees have begun to receive customized clothing for the delivery event, meaning that Cybertruck will indeed be delivered in the near future.
The Tesla Cybertruck began production at the Texas Superfactory back in July and has been witnessed at various locations in the US in recent times, expectedly for testing related to final deliveries.
The Cybertruck is the first electric pickup truck from Tesla, released in the month of November 2019, and has a sizable demand with 250,000 bookings in the first week of open bookings.
