Tesla Megapack battery storage facility in California caught on fire

In the early hours of September 20, 2022, the Tesla Megapack battery storage facility in Monterey County, California went ablaze. Thankfully, asides from the destruction of property on the premises, there were no casualties as the local firefighting team went to work effectively. The fire ravaged for about five hours before being put out, hence leading to a partial shutdown of some areas in the surrounding area.

Local news authorities on the site during and after the fire incident gave information on the state of the fire incident. According to their reports, the fire took place in the Tesla Megapack battery storage facility under the control of PG&E. The cause of the fire incident is unknown at the moment, but safety measures have been put in place to keep residents of the area safe from any air contamination.

The extent of damage to the facility is still yet to be known, and it will affect the operations within that battery storage facility. This Tesla Megapack battery storage facility holds a 182.5-megawatt system that powers Tesla cars in the United States. Possibly, the damage to this facility from the fire outbreak might slow down production just a little bit.

Recent reports have it that the fire is totally under control, as authorities have deemed it fit for activities in the surrounding areas to reopen. Further investigation into the actual cause of the fire outbreak will follow through under supervision from those in charge. PG&E claims that the fire was as a result of a single Tesla battery pack. Once repairs are made to the facility, regular work activities in it will commence as soon as possible.
