Tesla may be re-equipped with LIDAR or will be announced at the end of September

According to foreign media reports, recently the famous Tesla owner and hacker @greentheonly said on Twitter that Tesla is likely to be equipped with radar sensors on the upcoming new computer Hardware 4, because he found a new radar accessory number in the Tesla parts online list.

Although this part is really found in the list of spare parts for the 2021 Model X, it is not very compatible structurally with this vehicle. The foreign press expects this radar to be used on Tesla’s new all-electric pickup truck model Cybertruck, which uses the Hardware 4 computer.

There is not much official information about the new computer, but some sources indicate that the technology may be officially released at Tesla’s upcoming Telsa AI Day at the end of September, where Tesla is currently selling models equipped with the Hardware 3 computer.

@greentheonly is well known on the web, not only because he is always able to find out information about Tesla’s product updates and new technology applications through various methods, but also because the information is usually very reliable.

If his findings remain reliable this time, it would represent a shift in Elon Musk’s attitude toward sensors. The Tesla CEO previously announced that Tesla would only rely on visual perception systems for features such as Autopilot because it is safer, more stable and more reliable. However, in February this year, Elon Musk has said that only radar with very high resolution is valuable, so his acceptance of radar sensors is not zero.
